FellowshipsThe Center for Advancing Opportunity (CAO) is pleased to announce the launch of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) undergraduate research scholarship听and Ph.D.听fellowship applications!听The CAO Scholarship and Fellowship Programs are part of the new research and educational initiative established through a partnership with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), Charles Koch Foundation and Koch Industries. Our mission is robust: we seek to expand educational, social and economic opportunities in our nation鈥檚 fragile communities. CAO will provide HBCUs with the opportunity to engage in research and promote scholarships through our programs.


Undergraduate

The undergraduate research scholars will receive a one-year scholarship up to $7,500 for the 2017-2018 academic school year,听which will be applied solely to tuition and fees. The funds are applied in the fall and spring semesters at $3,750 per semester.

Requirements:

  • Enrolled full-time at a four-year HBCU (must be an accredited college or university)
  • Must be pursuing a degree in an eligible discipline (Business, Criminal Justice, Economics, Education, Philosophy or Political Science)
  • Provide 2017-2018 student aid report (received from FAFSA)
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • A citizen or permanent resident of the United States of America
  • Classified as a rising junior as of Fall 2017


Ph.D.

The Ph.D. student fellows will receive a one-year scholarship of $40,000 for the 2017-2018 academic school year, which will be applied solely to tuition, fees and required expenses. The funds are applied in the fall and spring semesters at $20,000 per semester.

Requirements:

  • 路听听Be an accepted or a current Ph.D. student enrolled at an accredited college or university
  • 路听听Must be pursuing a Ph.D. in an eligible discipline (Business, Criminal Justice, Economics, Education, Philosophy or Political Science)
  • 路听听Must have received a four-year degree from an accredited HBCU
  • 路听听Provide 2017-2018 student aid report (received from FAFSA)
  • 路听听Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • 路听听The applicant must exhibit a continued interest in pursuing a career aimed at furthering education, criminal justice or entrepreneurialism research at HBCUs
  • 路听听A citizen or permanent resident of the United States of America听


Application Period

Please share this information with qualified students majoring in one of the six specified disciplines. The application opens today,听Tuesday, April 11th, 2017听and closes听Sunday, May 14th, 2017.听
